Hi Arno. This may sound a bit odd but I could use some advice. I used to be a pipe smoker for a few years but gave it up about a decade ago when health insurance charged extra for tobacco users. During that time, I purchased a Vauen Bilbo pipe when they were first released (very hard to get at the time in the USA – had to translate the german eBay site – this was before Google!). I smoked it once and didn’t enjoy it (was my first and only churchwarden)… the stem was a little loose that first time but I put it back in the box and it sat there for a long time. I am doing some tidying up and was considering selling it but I noticed that the stem is much looser now (no cracks to speak of that I can see… it was never mishandled by me and it was new when I purchased it). I’d still like to sell it but am considering having it repaired first. Knowing that I must fully disclose an accurate condition when listing on eBay, I would state that it had been smoked once and repaired for a lose stem. With that being said, would you advise me to repair it first or should I leave it for the buyer to have repaired? This is one of those situations where the buyer may never even wish to smoke it so I have no idea how much decrease in value a loose stem might cause. I only ask you because I noticed you’ve been searching for one for a while and might have some perspective as a potential buyer. Anyway – I’d love your feedback *and advice as to who a reputable repair place might be here in the states.
