A friend of mine recently showed me a somewhat inelegant looking machine which has been in his posession for many years but without knowing its purpose. A photograph can be seen at http://www.chainganger.co.uk/Slicer3.jpg. We now suspect thet it’s intended to cut slices from sticks of cake tobacco as it has some similarity to one that I found at https://tinyurl.com/y85hejcg .
It has capacity to take sticks up to about 30mm square by about 230mm long. The cutting blade has two edges so it produces two slices per revolution of the handle. The lead screw pitch is 1/16″ so slices are about 0.8mm thick.
I’d be very grateful if you could let me know if you think that I’m right in my assumption and also let me know if cake tobacco normally came in a standard size to fit the machine.
With regards
